1、American Literature Lecture 11 Introduction about Mark Twain Mark Twain (1835 1910)Samuel Langhorne Clemens Life experience： Born in Florida, Missouri, on November 30, 1835. When he was four, Twains family moved to Hannibal. In 1847 the death of his father brought an end to his carefree days, and he
2、 had to go to work at the age of 12 as a printers apprentice. In 1865, he wrote a humorous story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, which became very popular and brought nationwide attention. 6、 millions, and his works will continue to give such pleasure to millions yet to come. His humor was American, but he was nearly as much appreciated by Englishmen and people of other countries as by his own countrymen. He has made an enduring part of American literature.
