2019-2020年人教版高中英語必修三教學(xué)案:Unit 5 Section 4(含答案) [原文呈現(xiàn)][讀文清障] “THE TRUE NORTH” FROM TORONTO TO MONTREAL The next morning the bushes① andmaple② trees outside their windows were red, gold and orange, and there was frost③ on the ground, confirming④ that fall⑤ had arrived in Canada⑥. Around noon they arrived in Toronto, the biggest and most wealthy⑦ city in Canada⑧. They were not leaving for Montreal until later, so they went on a tour of⑨ the city. They went up the tall CN Tower⑩ and looked across the lake. In the distance?, they could see the misty? cloud that rose from the great Niagara? Falls, which is on the south side of the lake. The water flows into the Niagara River? and over the falls on its way to the sea. They saw the covered stadium, home of? several famous basketball teams. As they walked north from the harbour area?, Li Daiyu said, “Lin Fei, one of my mothers old schoolmates?, lives here. I should phone her from a telephone booth?.” They met Lin Fei around dusk in downtown? Chinatown, one of the three in Toronto. Over dinner? at a restaurant called The Pink Pearl, the cousins chatted with Lin Fei, who had moved to Canada many years earlier. “We can get good Cantonese food here,” Lin Fei told them, “because most of the Chinese people here e from South China, especially Hong Kong. But its far too early to add dusting to a weightloss plan. Dietary fats and other materials that make up indoor dust can send a signal to human fat cells, telling them to grow. That process, in turn, might slow the bodys rate of burning energy. Such changes could add to any weight problems a person might have. “We dont know what that means to longterm health and certain diseases yet,” says Heather Stapleton, one of the studys authors. But she notes that her teams findings also raise a question of whether pollutants (污染物) in dust might play some role in the growing, global problem of obesity. Stapleton and her colleagues collected dust from homes and offices. Studies found that some materials in the dust could turn on a protein (蛋白質(zhì)) called PPARgamma 1. Its found in many human tissues. Turning this protein on can cause fat cells to grow. Researchers think this protein may be involved in obesity. But a second study now finds evidence that certain fats are mostly to blame. Cooking oils may send out some of these fats into the air, where they eventually find their way into house dust. Or, the authors say, the fats might enter house dust as part of the hair or skin cells shed (脫落) by people or pets. “While the findings are amazing,” says Mitchell Lazar, another study author, “these findings need to be taken as very preliminary.” Indeed, he adds several cautions about how the findings should be understood. “For one thing, people eat these fats in foods all of the time. That is likely to be a lot more than would be consumed from indoor dust,” he said. 1.What can be concluded from the research? A.Dust harms peoples health. B.Dust can help people lose weight. C.Dust is a cause for some diseases. D.Dust may have something to do with weight. 解析:選D 推理判斷題。由第二段最后一句可知,家里的灰塵可能與肥胖有一定的關(guān)系。 2.What do we know about PPARgamma 1? A.It es from dust. B.It leads to weight gain. C.It can help get rid of dust. D.It only appears in human bodies. 解析:選B 細節(jié)理解題。由第三段“Turning this protein on can cause fat cells to grow.”可知,此蛋白質(zhì)能引起肥胖。 3.The underlined word “preliminary” in the last paragraph can be replaced by “______”. A.limited B.important C.misleading D.unbelievable 解析:選A 詞義猜測題。由下句“Indeed, he adds several cautions about how the findings should be understood.”及他之后所說的話可知,Lazar認為此研究發(fā)現(xiàn)有一定的局限性。 4.Whats the best title for the text? A.Can house dust make us fat? B.Why is it important to clean? C.Anything to do to deal with dust? D.What is the best way to lose weight? 解析:選A 標題歸納題。從全文整體看,作者探討了家里的灰塵會不會使我們變胖的問題。 Ⅱ.語法填空 A young man, while traveling through a desert, came across a spring of clear water. __1__ water was sweet.
