11、k in Yesterday: The music had never been remastered ( 重新灌 ). But on September 9 that situation came to an end, with the release of the entire bands music in a digital makeover. It is probably the biggest reissue ( 重新 行 ) in pop music history, said British newspaper the Financial Times.
12、The albums were remastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, the location where the band produced much of their work. The cover of their last album, Abbey Road of 1969, featured the four young men striding ( 大步行走 ) across a zebra crossing on Abbey Road itself. It is one of the most famous of
13、 all Beatles images. Recently, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the album, hundreds of Beatles lovers gathered there to show their appreciation. Pop groups come and go. The boy band pursued by screaming fans one year will be forgotten the next. But the Beatles are one of the few grou
14、ps whose music seems to have endured ( 持久 ). Why? Paul McCartneys biographer Barry Miles has an explanation. “They were the first rock band ? and they just happened to be the best. They were the first band to play at stadiums, to have their own products. They were ground-breaking in ever

20、for millions of people around the world. So, whats wrong with the traditional flush toilet? Firstly, it wastes a huge amount of potential drinking water. Secondly, they are more likely to cause pollution. This is a real problem in many areas of the developing world, where, according to United
21、Nations estimates, unsafe sanitation causes half of all hospitalizations. Younger people are particularly at risk. Illnesses which cause diarrhea are responsible for the deaths of about 1.5 million children a year. Finally, standard lavatories simply arent practical in remote areas. The challenge
22、 set by Bill Gates was to come up with a latrine which works without running water, electricity or aseptic tank. It also needed to operate for less than 5 cents. 28 designs were displayed at the recent Reinvent the Toilet fair, in Seattle, USA. Among them was one which turned human waste into ele
23、ctricity using microwaves, another which converted human waste into charcoal, and yet another which used urine for flushing. But the winner was a solar - powered design which generated hydrogen gas and electricity. The team from the California Institute of Technology (CIT) picked up a prize
24、 of $100 , 000. But clearly Bill Gates doesnt feel hes flushing money down the toilet. After the Seattle event he said, “We couldnt be happier with the r esponse weve gotten ,” Gates has even pledged $370m (2.2 billion RMB) more to the future toilet project. They hope to field test more pro
