2019-2020年高二英語(yǔ)話題閱讀訓(xùn)練 Week Fourteen生活哲理一、閱讀理解(共14小題;共28.0分)A The old saying "Youre only as old as you feel" has new life, backed up by a new study. Researchers found older people with positive views on aging were 44% more likely to recover fully after severe disability than those with negative views on aging. People with positive attitudes about aging also had a slower decline in their ability to do daily tasks such as dressing and bathing. Until now, experts say, most of the research on attitudes about aging and health has looked at the health risks and losses linked to a negative views. But this study suggests there may be actual health benefits to having a more positive view about aging. In the study, researchers periodically surveyed 598 people aged 70 or older about their views on aging over a period of about 11 years. None were disabled when the study started, but later on, all of them had at least one month when they needed help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, or walking. The older people with positive views on aging were more likely to progress from severe disability to mild disability or mild disability to no disability. And they also had a slower rate of decline in their ability to perform daily activities as they got older. Of course, many factors affect whether or to what extent a person recovers from disability. This study does not prove that a positive attitude about aging made a difference. Positive views on aging may help people recover from disability and promote independent living in a variety of ways. A persons attitudes about aging say a lot about how much they believe their health is under their own control. People with positive age attitudes may be more likely to live a healthy lifestyle, keep up on their doctor appointments, and take their medicines as ordered. Researchers say the next step is to look at how people can upgrade their attitudes about aging. 1. From the passage, we can know . A. many people are afraid of aging in fact B. positive views on aging are more likely to help people recover C. we can live as long as we want if with positive views D. positive views can stop us from declining the ability of dressing 2. Whats the difference between the new study and most of the former studies? A. The ways of studying. B. The contents of studying. C. The hosts of studying. D. The attitudes of the researchers. 3. It can be inferred from the passage that . A. positive attitudes determine whether a person recovers B. positive attitudes assure that people must recover from disability C. negative attitudes destroy peoples health D. positive attitudes can bring actual health benefits to people 4. The people with positive age attitudes may . A. live an easy life B. visit the doctors occasionally C. take medicines as told D. do exercises regularly 5. What will the researchers do next? A. Emphasize some of the positive views. B. Focus on the developmental loss with aging. C. Help people take their medicines as ordered. D. Believe their health is under their own control.B I recently turned fifty, which is young for a tree, midlife for an elephant, and ancient for a sportsman. Fifty is a nice number for the states in the US or for a national speed limit, but it is not a number that I was prepared to have hung on me. Fifty is supposed to be my fathers age, but now I am stuck with this number and everything it means. A few days ago, a friend tried to cheer me up by saying, "Fifty is what forty used to be." He had made an inspirational point. Am I over the hill? People keep telling me that the hill has been moved, and I keep telling them that the high-jump bar has dropped from the six feet I once easily cleared to the four feet that is impossible for me now. "Youre not getting older, youre getting better," says Dr. Joyce Brothers. This, however, is the kind of doctor who inspires a second opinion. And so, as I approach the day when I cannot even jump over the tennis net, I am moved to share some thoughts on aging with you. I am moved to show how aging feels to me physically and mentally. Getting older, of course, is obviously a better change than the one that brings you eulogies(悼詞). In fact, a poet named Robert Browning considered it the best change of all: Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be. Whether or not Browning was right, most of my first fifty years have been golden ones, so I will settle for what is ahead being as good as what has gone by. I find myself moving toward what is ahead with a curious blend(混合) of both fighting and accepting my aging, hoping that the philosopher(哲學(xué)家) was right when he said, "Old is always fifteen years from now." 6. The author seems to tell us in Paragraph 1 that . A. time alone will tell B. time goes by quickly C. time will show what is right D. time makes one forget the past 7. The author considers his fifty years of life . A. peacefulB. ordinaryC. satisfactoryD. regretful 9. We can infer from the passage that . A. the old should lead a simple life B. the old should face the fact of aging C. the old should take more exercise D. the old should fill themselves with curiosityC About Lanoxin Lanoxin is derived from the leaves of a digitalis plant. One day, he came to visit a saint and wanted to be his student. The saint provided some tea. He slowly filled the scholars cup: the cup was full, yet he kept pouring and pouring. The scholar burst out, "Stop! You cant add anything to something thats already full!" The saint set down the teapot and replied, "Exactly." Whether its the silence between notes in music, or some open time in your schedule, you need space to act effectively(有效地). Yet most of us, myself included, tend to stuff as much as possible into whatever room is availableclosets, schedules, budgets, relationships, and even the mind itself. However, some people know how to avoid overstuffing(裝填過(guò)度) their life. For example, in Australia, it seemed that most people there operated at about 85% of their capacity(能力), unlike Americans pushing as close to 100% as possible. So when you run into Australians you know in the street, they have time to hang out and talk with you. Remember the cup: its value is in the space, the emptiness it holds. How to empty your "cup"? Be mindful of the element of space, openness, and emptiness in your life. This includes room in a drawer, the volume of air in a kitchen, and open-mindedness in a friend. Sometimes youre just stuck with a big bucket of tasks yet to do. But at least empty the bucket faster than you fill it with new tasks. Put some space between finishing one thing and starting another. For example, after sending one email, take a breath before replying to another one. Drop the stuff you can no longer afford to lug around. At sea level, you can run with a brick in your backpack, but if youre hiking on a mountain, that brick has got to go.15. By pouring water into the cup, the saint most probably wanted the scholar to know that . A. he should pay attention to details B. he should keep learning every day C. he had already gained enough knowledge D. he should be very careful in order to succeed16.
