do?(send out lots of invitations)2)And what other things do you have to do if you want your meeting to be a successful one?(rent meeting halls;book hotels;order meals;arrange buses;make must be a“D”想必是字母“D”。must作“想必、準(zhǔn)是,一定”解,用來(lái)表示對(duì)某事確有把握的推論或揣測(cè)。雖然句中的must也可用may代替,但must語(yǔ)氣更肯定。例如:The farmers must be very tired;theyve kept sowing all the morning農(nóng)夫們想必很累了,他們整個(gè)上午一直在播種。I always meet him in the streetHe must live quite near here我總在這條街上碰到他,想必他就住在附近。must表示推測(cè)常用在肯定句中。在疑問(wèn)句中用can,否定句中用cant。例如:What do you think this invitation can mean?你認(rèn)為這份請(qǐng)柬可能意味著什么?She cant be a professorshes so young她不可能是教授她還很年輕。在否定句中,也有用cant表示推測(cè)的,意思是“想必不,準(zhǔn)是不”。例如:I can hear the Browns phone bell ringing but no one is answering it;They cant be athome我聽(tīng)到布朗家的電話(huà)鈴在響,但是沒(méi)有人接,他們想必都不在家。2Dr Baker replied to the invitation,accepting it貝克博士還是答復(fù)了請(qǐng)柬,接受了邀請(qǐng)。1)reply可作動(dòng)詞,也可作名詞。作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),意思是“回答”,可用reply to(sbsth)表示“對(duì)作出的回答”;作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),是“答到、回答說(shuō)”的意思,后跟直接引語(yǔ)或賓語(yǔ)從句,不直接跟人或物作賓語(yǔ)。作名詞時(shí),是“回答、答復(fù)”之意,后面可跟介詞to的短語(yǔ)。例如:She cried,but didnt reply她哭了,但不回答。Please reply to my question請(qǐng)回答我的問(wèn)題。He replied that he didnt know the secret他回答說(shuō)他不知道這個(gè)秘密。She didnt lift her head,and made no reply她頭也不抬,又不回答。reply和answer都有“回答”的意思,有時(shí)可以通用,但reply比answer正式,指經(jīng)過(guò)思考的答復(fù)。二者都可以作及物動(dòng)詞,answer可直接跟名詞作賓語(yǔ)。例如:Can you answer myquestion?Can you reply to my question?你能回答我的問(wèn)題嗎?2)accepting it是-ing短語(yǔ),表示伴隨動(dòng)作,相當(dāng)于and accepted it。例如:The boss went to see MrKing,praising him for his excellent work老板去看望了金先生,表?yè)P(yáng)了他出色的工作。注意:accept和receive的區(qū)別:accept和receive都有“收到”的意思。但receive只表示客觀上“收到某物”,與主觀愿望無(wú)關(guān),而accept表示主觀上“樂(lè)意接受某物”。例如:He received the gift,but he did not accept it他收到了禮物,但他沒(méi)接受。I have received an invitation from JohnShall I accept it or refuse it?我收到了約翰的請(qǐng)柬,我是接受還是拒絕?3Would you mind giving a talk today about DNA?能不能請(qǐng)你今天作一個(gè)關(guān)于DNA的報(bào)告?“Would you mind+doing sth?”是日常交際用語(yǔ),表示禮貌地提出請(qǐng)求。例如:Would you mind sending him a message for me?請(qǐng)你幫我?guī)€(gè)口信給他好嗎?Would you mind fetching me some water,please?勞駕給我打點(diǎn)水好嗎?4Dr Lively was going to talk on that very subject today萊芙利博士今天原先要談的正好是這個(gè)題目。介詞on在句中作“關(guān)于”(about)解。例如:I want to speak to you on a very serious subject我想跟你談一個(gè)非常嚴(yán)肅的問(wèn)題。I cant agree with you on this point關(guān)于這一點(diǎn),我不能同意你的意見(jiàn)。句中的very是形容詞,修飾后面的名詞subject,用來(lái)加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣,作“正好”解。例如:Thats the very thing I need那正是我需要的東西。She determined to go that very afternoon她決定就在當(dāng)天下午走。
