Jonathan Swift : Irish author and journalist, the foremost prose satirist in the English language. Swifts best known work is Gullivers Travels (1726).Lilliput: 小人國(guó)Pictures of NovelGullivers TravelsStage 2 thinking Think about how the writer:Attracts the attention of the reader.Shows the order of events.Shares feelings with the reader.Use vivid language to make the writing more interesting Stage 3 analyzing Learn the writing skills in the third draft by paring each other in detail Stage 4 applying Finish exercise 3Stage 5 WritingWrite a personal anecdote: example Stage 1Decide which situation you are going to write about. You may need some imaginations. Here are some suggestions.1 a day when everything went wrong2 a disastrous school outing3 a terrible night outthink about the other people who were involved. Were they funny, tough, nervous? Stage 2Draw a timeline and write notes about the main events. Stage 3Divide your notes into four or five paragraphs. Stage 4Write your story in sentences. Stage 5Check your story for mistakes.Math Anxiety PersonifiedI had a friend who was "Math anxiety personified". She did not take high school math, and was convinced that she was not mathematically inclined, as are most women in our culture.Intimidated by a certain administrator who spouted impressive sounding stats all the time at meetings , and we used to back off and give in. Eventually other evidence convinced us that said individual was a certified idiot. So, my math anxious friend sat down and went through this clowns report one night, math text in one hand, report in other and found about 12 errors in first page. At next meeting, she called him on it, and we win our first battle with this idiot. From then on we won all our battles with him and my friend said, "You know, this math stuff is really hard, except for these few things I had to read to nail this clown. That stuff was all pretty straight forward." To make a long story short, she is currently finishing her Ph.D. in statistics. Moral of this story is, if you dont let yourself be intimidated - and if you can just add, subtract, multiply and divide - you can do 90% of the math you need to out talk any administrator, parent, or salesman alive. Stage 6 listening Listen to a story and finish the exercise.
