disappearing. One non-profit organization seeking to save world languages is a New York-based group called Wikitongues.Officials from Wikitongues say the organization has a simple goal:to provide the tools and support that people need to save their languages.Udell is the co-founder of Wikitongues. He said when a language disappears, many other things can go away as well. For example, parts of a communitys culture, knowledge and identity can also be lost.Because of this,Udell believes the process of bringing languages back must be done by community members themselves.“Fromthegroundup,” he said.“There is no way an outside organization can save someones language for them.”Wikitongues was started in 2016 as an open Internet collection of world languages. The self-described “community” is operated by volunteers from around the world. The collection is in the form of language videos that people add to the Wikitongues website. There are currently more than 400 languages and dialects on Wikitongues channel.Udell says more than 1,500 people from 70 different countries have added videos to the system.“We have people from India who record dozens of languages, which is beyond their own,” he said. One of Wikitongues volunteers is Kolokwe, who lives in Namibia. His native language is Subiya. However,he does not get the chance to speak his native language every day.Like many other educated people from his area,he speaks a lot of English and Afrikaans.Kolokwe is hoping hisinvolvementwith Wikitongues can help keep Subiya and other African languages from goingextinct. He wants the world to know about his language. But his goal goes beyond just sharing his language with others through video. He is also working to create a dictionary and language teaching materials that can be used in schools.8.What is the result of languages disappearing?A.People may be uncertain about who they are.B.All the customs and beliefs are still existing.C.People can not communicate with each other.D.The can save languages from disappearing.C.Internet plays a more important part than volunteers.D.Only community members can save their own languages.DOne day your pocket might power your smartphone.Soon you may never have to worry about your smartphone runningoutofjuice .Your clothing will simply power it back up for you.Thats the word from scientists at Chinas Chongqing and Jinan Universities in a study just published in the journal ACSNano. Researchers have been hard at work during the last few years trying to create wearable energy,or clothes that can charge things. The assumption is simple.People today relyheavilyupon devices such as smartphones and tablets. And theyre looking for ways to recharge these devices onthego. So if you could design clothing fabric that could make use of solar powerone of the most widely available and inexhaustible renewable energy sourcesyoud be able to charge your various devices with ease.Scientists have had some past success creating energy-harvesting fibers. But there was always one problem when they tried to fashion these threads into self-powered smart clothes. The fibers they designed got damaged during the clothing manufacturing process, namely during the weaving and cutting. The Chongqing and Jinan University scientists say theyve solved this problem because the energy-collecting and energy-storing threads they created are highly flexibleeach individual thread is easily bendable, and not simply the fabric as a whole. The teams sample textile can be fully charged to 1.2 volts in 17 seconds by exposure to sunlightenough voltage that your future smart T-shirt or smart dress might be able to power small electronics. Its durable, too;their research showed there was no decrease in the fabric after 60 days. But dont worry that this means the fabric is similar to rough cloth. The scientists note their textile can be fashioned into many different patterns, and tailored into any designed shape, without affecting performance.12.What does the underlined phrase “running out of juice” in Paragraph 1 mean?A.Being lacking in energy.B.Wanting to have some juice.C.Being picked out of a drink.D.Having some water running out.13.Why could a smart dress charge a phone?A.A solar cell is attached to the dress.B.The fabric of the textile contains current.C.The fabric of the textile is easily bendable.D.The fabric of the textile could collect and store the solar energy.14.What is the scientistsattitude towards the scientific technology?A.Optimistic.B.Pessimistic.C.Neutral.D.Doubtful.15.This passage is written to . A.persuade readers to buy new clothesB.inform readers of the ways to use their devicesC.introduce new wearable energy to readersD.remind readers to wear smart clothes.七選五Flextime is a
