1、Emily Elizabeth Dickinson(December 1 0 , 1 8 3 0 May 1 5 , 1 8 8 6 ) Emily Dickinson was an American poet. Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, to a successful family with strong community ties, she lived a mostly introverted and reclusive life. As the Belle of Amherst, she was one of the most highly-reg
2、arded poets ever to write. She was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly 1 ,8 0 0 poems were published during her lifetime. And she was known for her penchant for white clothing and her reluctance to greet guests. Life Experience Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born at the familys
3、homestead in Amherst, Massachusetts, on December 1 0 , 1 8 3 0 . To some extent, she lived in a quite wealthy family. Emily Dickinsons paternal grandfather, Samuel Dickinson, had almost single-handedly founded Amherst College. Her father, Edward Dickinson was a very wealthy, successful and prominent
4、 lawyer and politician. As a young girl, she was educated at Amherst Academy and Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley, Massachusetts for only one year due to health problems.Life Experience Some time around 1 8 5 0 she began writing poetry. Her first poems were traditional and followed esta
5、blished form, but as time passed and she began producing huge amounts of poetry, Dickinson began experimenting. During her lifetime, she wrote about 1 ,8 0 0 poems.Life Experience In 1 8 8 6 , Dickinsons health began deteriorating and she found herself slowly becoming an invalid. Dickinson was only
6、fifty-six, but she was suffering from a severe case of Brights disease. She died on May 1 5 , 1 8 8 6 , and was buried in a white coffin in Amherst. She didnt marry any man throughout her lifetime.
